Users in Barrows, Engineering Research Building, and the Advanced Manufacturing Center can request help by sending email to noc at eece dot maine dot edu. All buildings are connected to the campus at 1 Gb/s. Wireless service is present in Barrows and ERB.

Users with new computers can connect to the network by plugging into any active jack or the wireless network (SSID tempest) and then using UNET's auto registration page. Just point a web browser at any non-university web site. A registration page will appear. Fill in a valid UNET user name and password. After about five minutes and a reboot, you should be on the network.

If you are a new student to the department and are thinking of purchasing a computer, the Computer Connection is an authorized Dell and IBM reseller. I recommend a Dell Dimension or Optiplex desktop, or an IBM (Lenovo) Thinkpad T or R series. Some students are using tablet laptops to take notes in class. We no longer recommend any specific configuration. Any new computer will work.
