Flight Test of Wireless Accelerometer Array Using Aerospike Rocket
This collaborative project between the University of Maine at Orono (UMaine) and California State University at Long Beach (CSULB) is developed as part of Maine Space Grant Consortium (MSGC) and California Space Grant Consortium (CSGC) strategic plan for broadening participation of minorities in research and educational activities in science and engineering.
Research Plan
The aerospike rocket developed at CSULB is currently equipped with several pressure and temperature sensors as well as an off-the-shelf IMU developed for UAVs. The addition of a separate accelerometer package added redundancy in the data acquisition system on a critical data item. Aerospike rocket engines, or engines with plug nozzles, are supposed to have superior performance over engines with bell nozzles because of their self-compensating capabilities.
