The Mastering MATLAB Toolbox
Version 5
|
|
The Mastering MATLAB Toolbox is a collection of approximately 140 function
M-files written by the authors of Mastering MATLAB 5. The functions in the
Toolbox range from commonly used utilities, to numerical analysis and
optimization functions, to powerful high level plotting routines, to
polished graphical user interface functions for setting axes, line,
surface, paper, and other properties. If you downloaded or otherwise
received a copy of the Mastering MATLAB Toolbox that was associated with
the first edition of this text, you have a general idea of what is
available in the Toolbox. However, since then a lot has changed. The
changes include:
- The size of the Toolbox has nearly doubled, with many of the new
functions providing significant new capabilities.
- Many of the original functions were modified to improve
functionality.
- All original functions have been reviewed and revised to make
them MATLAB version 5 compatible and to make use of new features in
version 5.
- Some function names have been changed to improve naming consistency.
- A new release of the Toolbox incorporating a few bug fixes and
enhancements replaced the initial release on September 11, 1998.
Obtaining the Toolbox
This edition of the Mastering MATLAB Toolbox is freely distributable.
Anyone can download the Toolbox, install it, use it, copy it, and give it to
others. Please keep the copyright notice intact.
The Toolbox files are fully-functional.
The Mastering MATLAB Toolbox User's Guide lists all of the Toolbox
functions and discusses many of them in detail. The User's Guide includes
a number of examples and the help text
for some of the functions as well.
The User's Guide is available
as a PDF file.

Installing the Toolbox
After downloading
and decompressing the appropriate Toolbox file on your platform,
you will find a directory or folder
named mm5 containing the files: Contents.m, Readme.m, and
numerous .m files, which are the toolbox functions.
You should also have a subdirectory or subfolder called
html within your mm5 directory. Please use the appropriate
options to create all subdirectories when decompressing the archive.
To install the Mastering MATLAB Toolbox, simply copy the mm5 directory
and its contents into the Toolbox directory (within the MATLAB directory)
and add the mm5 directory to the MATLAB search path (using the tools
discussed in Chapter 5.)
The Contents.m file lists
all of the functions in the Toolbox.
The Readme.m file contains
information about additions and changes to the Toolbox.
