Map & Directions

The conference is divided into two competitions:

Paper Contest

-1st Place: $800
-2nd Place: $500
-3rd Place: $200

Student paper contest offers undergraduate IEEE student members opportunities to exercise and improve both written and verbal communications skills. Since the contest’s primary function is to improve engineering student’s communicative skills, no student should be discouraged from entering the contest due to a false requirement of technical sophistication.

Eligibility:
The entrant must be an undergraduate student at a school in Region one* at which there is an IEEE Student Branch at the time of entry. You should complete and submit an application for membership in IEEE prior to entry in the branch contest. Entrants may collaborate with additional students on the paper contest.

* Region one includes: NH, MA, ME, RI, NJ, NY, VT, CT

Micro Mouse Contest

-1st Place: $800
-2nd Place: $500
-3rd Place: $200

The Micro-mouse competition is a technological competition dedicated to the creation of an automatic "machine" that could autonomously explore a labyrinth, reach its center and eventually find the shortest path between the start and end. The labyrinth's shape is square, with side lengths of several meters. It is divided into rectangular cells. The project requires various levels of knowledge that must be studied and shared among group participants. The mouse should move, so a mechanical structure and electronic control are needed. The mouse also needs a sensor system to locate the labyrinth walls; some sensor systems available are: ultrasounds, infrared rays, and small cameras. The mouse should have some kind of artificial intelligence software that manages the hardware motion in response to sensor input, then decides a movement direction.
