The University of Maine's Industrial Assessment Center (IAC) is a program that is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy through the Office of Industrial Technologies. The University of Maine is one of thirty universities nationwide that participate in the program. The IAC provides waste and energy assessments for small and medium-sized manufacturing companies (SIC codes 20-39) within the State of Maine. The IAC conducts 30 assessments per year. These assessments are free of charge for eligible industrial clients. They are performed by teams of University faculty, staff and students. Typical assessments create first year client savings of $40,000 with average payback of less than one year.
